A few more from the road…

Marlborough (Blenheim) is the land of Sauvignon Blanc and thus we felt it was only right to try as many as possible in our half day wine tour.

After 6 full wineries we can state that New Zealand makes the best SB we’ve ever had but their red varietals left us a little unsatisfied. More then anything we just were not ready for the smoky characteristics that accompany a NZ Pinot (hints of beef jerky were not what were expecting). To be fair, we’ve found that the best Pinot’s in NZ come from the Central Ortego wine region way down on the south island, where it is colder and more conducive to growing Pinot.

All in all, the Kiwis are a tsunami of kindness (poor topical reference, but that tsunami thankfully was not nearly as powerful as the networks that overhyped it).  The Kiwis are the nicest people we have come across so we cannot bash their reds, we simply have not yet developed our palates for their bold flavors.
